"My forge is next to my house in Westbrook Street, just beyond the cart and behind the tree on the right. The street gets very muddy in winter, particularly at the bottom end near Bohams Farm. We sometimes make iron fittings to raise childrens shoes two or three inches, so that they can keep dry walking in the puddles."

"Let us take the footpath Watery Lane just beside my house. This crosses the West Brook and leads to Nottyngham Fee."
