Disability

Guidepost Trust

The Guideposts Trust Independent Living Centre, in partnership with Oxfordshire County Council, provides information on products and organisations to assist people with disabilities and older people to increase and maintain their independence.

The Centre, based in Witney, provides this service to any adult residing in Oxfordshire. The Centre has a showroom with equipment for the kitchen, lounge, bedroom and bathroom. Two Occupational Therapists are available for personal and confidential consultations, by appointment. There is also an information line.

Doctors' Surgery

The Blewbury Surgery is at the Village Hall. Dr. Alex Hart attends on Tuesdays and Dr Peter Rubin attends on Fridays.
Surgery hours in the Village Hall are 8.00am - 11am on Tuesdays and Fridays. Appointments may be made for Blewbury surgeries by ringing (01235-850612) during surgery hours only or (0844-477-8664) on Mondays to Fridays between 8.00am and 6.30pm
Repeat prescriptions may be collected from Blewbury surgery on Tuesdays and Fridays during surgery hours.

The Main Surgery of the same practice is at the Woodlands Medical Centre (0844-477-8664), Woodlands Road, Didcot OX11 0BB, next to Didcot Hospital. There is a Lloyds Pharmacy at the centre.
Surgery hours at the Woodlands Medical Centre are on Mondays to Fridays from 8.00am to 1.00pm and 2.00pm to 6.00pm. Individual clinics have specific times given on their web site.

The surgery operates a web site www.woodlandsmedicalcentre.com from which repeat prescriptions can be ordered for collection from the Blewbury surgery or from Woodlands. You can send emails to the surgery with the address woodlands.medical@nhs.net.

For appointments at the Blewbury Surgery or for an appointment with any doctor or the practice nurse at the Main Surgery or for any other query or information contact (0844-477-8664) on Mondays to Fridays between 8.00am and 6.30pm.

Out of Hours Cover. If you need urgent medical care outside normal surgery hours - this means before 8.00 am or after 6.00pm Mondays to Fridays, or 24 hours a day at weekends and on bank holidays - patients in any practice should call (08453-458995).
You can also get general health advice 24 hours a day by calling NHS Direct on (0845-46-47) or by visiting the NHS Direct helpful web site www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk.

Minor Injuries. A Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) is available at Abingdon Hospital, Marcham Road, Abingdon. The unit is run by specially trained nurses for patients with sprains and broken bones. The unit is open from 10am to 10.30pm seven days a week and can be contacted on (01235-208730). If an x-ray is required, an appointment must be made in advance.

Family Planning

The Contraception and Sexual Health Clinic, Didcot Health Centre, Britwell Road, Didcot OX11 7JN (01235-814240) offers contraceptive advice and supplies and time to talk, particularly around sensitive issues like pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. You do not have to be referred by a doctor or nurse. The clinic is open on Mondays 4.00pm - 6.00pm and Thursdays 6.00pm - 8.00pm. No appointment is necessary.
The Blewbury Surgery also offers full family planning services. All the Doctors and Practice Nurses are happy to discuss the different methods of contraception available. For emergency contraception (‘the morning after pill’) please make an appointment with your Doctor or the Practice Nurse.
