The Initiative

The Blewbury Energy Initiative aims to reduce energy consumption in buildings in Blewbury, and to encourage the use of renewable energy resources. We hope to reduce the amount of coal, oil, gas and electricity used, and to help the global environment.

New on this website

The use of transport is discussed in a new section of this site. This covers the impact on the environment and the transport choices which minimise greenhouse gas emissions.

The global warming page summarises research indicating that our very cold weather last winter was not related to global warming.
The green energy page now includes material on dealing with and storing energy from intermittent renewable energy sources such as wind or solar.

News

The Department of Energy and Climate Change introduced a Feed-In Tariff for small-scale electricity generation on 1 April 2010. This will encourage installation of renewable technologies: solar photovoltaic panels, small wind turbines, small-scale hydro, etc. They have also proposed a Renewable Heat Incentive to encourage solar hot water, heat pumps, and other sources of heating, which may begin in April 2011. There is information on both of these on our domestic generation page. The scrappage scheme for inefficient old boilers, run by the Energy Saving Trust, closed on 26 March 2010.
